I was asked, as a chiropractor what would you change about your own health. I can’t be hippocritical because I am always asking everyone else about this. The answer is my weight. I take really good care of myself, mostly organic foods, exercise, I work hard on my mental health, and I get plenty of rest.
I feel I am in excellent health except for a few parts here and there that I have busted up over the years.
The one obvious exception to this is my weight. I was 175 pounds for a long part of my adult life. I was working as a swim instructor, or a lifeguard for much of it, and was also a professional skim boarder. Before that I had been a surfer with plenty of time on my hands. All of those had at their essence long hours of exercise. It was not uncommon for me to exercise three hours at a time.
During the last 15 years I have built one of the finest chiropractic offices in the world. In the process of focusing so much on my patients, my weight has definitately gone up, and up, and up. A few months ago, I started to feel like my blood pressure might be getting a little elevated, so I bought a new blood pressure cuff and sure enough it was up little bit over where it had been.
My wife has done such a great job losing weight and keeping it off over the last many years, plus a weight loss article I read, and I finally made the plunge.
For the first time in my life I am actually taking stock of how much food I put into my body each day. I am counting my calories. I realized that I don’t know how much I eat, and as a result have lost control over my weight.
I weighed in a week ago after eating at just over 240 pounds. At a 170 or 180 pounds I am a fantastic athlete. This is going to take some work. If you are interested check back and I will let you know what transpires.
I figured out that if you take your weight and multily it by 13 calories, then you can figure out about how many calories you burn each day. I figure that if I multiply 170 pounds by 13 it will give me the amount of calories I will burn when I get where I need to be.
That puts me at about 2200 calories per day. I have done it for 3 days now. I haven’t really been hungry. I am just so used to eating great food that it is a bit of a loss for me.
My weight has already dropped around 4 pounds, but I know that is mostly food and water. Now the real fat pounds will start, and I am sure they will go a lot slower. I figure at the beginning I should lose about 2 pounds per week, which will slow down as my weight drops. I have now put this out on the internet, so I will look even more foolish if I fail.
I too have put on pounds and inches since I graduated from Palmer. My clinic is also one of the best in the world. So I will do my thing and compare notes with you in a few months.

David,
How is practicing chiropractic in Hong Kong?
I would love to hear about it.
Also, I can totally understand gaining lots of weight practicing in Hong Kong, the food must be amazing!
A guy I knew dropped 10 #’s in a month by not eating anything with sugar on its label, and I didn’t even stop drinking.
Have you both every thought about nutritional cleansing? I’m an owner of a massage therapy clinic and have had two children. I did my first nutritional cleanse a year ago and have never felt or looked better in my life. I’ve gone down 3 pant sizes and my husband has also done the cleanse and felt clarity and more energy. The company has just launched into Hong Kong and Australia and is the world’s largest nutritional cleansing company. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me. (Link edited out)
