First off, happy new year! Today is Chinese New Year!
Today we went as we often do on Chinese New Year to Jasmine Dim Sum. It is a truly Hong Kong experience in San Diego. In fact it is the only place in San Diego that really feels Chinese. We got there today, and there was an hour wait, which we expected due to the holiday. The first thing I noticed was a well groomed man, wearing a georgeous shirt of a shimmering fabric with Chinese characters in it. He was speaking to some people out front, and he just stood out of the crowd. He had a confident nobility mixed with a true warmth. I figured he must be a wealthy Chinese local out with friends to celebrate the New Year. He just really struck me, really stuck out.
Then we had the food, fantastic as always, with everything from stuffed pork buns, and rice noodle covered shrimp to the more exotic chicken feet in garlic sauce (fung tsow) mmmmm…..
After we were eating, this nobel man came up to our table, and I realized he must work at Jasmine. He introduced himself as Dr. Chan, one of the family of owners. Just as he had appeared, he was warm, joking, polished, and just a great guy. Hearing the Dr. part, I imediately asked what type of Dr. he was? He looked at me and said, “A chiropractor” In fact his office is right around the corner from Jasmine restaurant on Convoy street.
Now, I have never been adjusted by the guy, so I can not tell you about his Dr. skills, but as a human being, he made an imediate and lasting impression. What’s not to love about a chiropractor who is part owner of one of my all time favorite restaurants?
Chiropractic and Dim Sum, a perfect match!
